Shall We Dance & Make Art?

The kids are back in school this week and I get to dance again after the summer break.  I feel whole again...  ahhh..

I am feeling inspired by a children's artist Melissa Sweet.   I love her whimsical flowers and seed pods.  She has combined water color with simple pencil sketches.

It even looks like she has added paper cut outs into her art as well.  These images have a chaotic whimsy  that I absolutely adore.
Ashland Oregon Garden
I lived in Ashland Oregon for a time and one of my favorite things about the town was the chaotic whimsical gardens that the town folk planted in their yards.  Heaps of lavender busting out through the fences, plants that others would have pulled out - calling them "weeds" - are left in place to add to the charm of the wild garden.  Roses over grown and vegetables tucked in between flowers.  The loveliest gardens I have ever seen.  I strive to create my garden like the ashland gardens of my past, but I diverge...

Buying books for my children this summer I stumbled upon this book - Day Is Done - by Peter Yarrow. I was absolutely charmed and inspired with the illustrations.  A picture book for mama!

My kids are loving it too.  They both sat down the day we brought this book home and drew images inspired by the book.

Oh I love Melissa Sweet! Thank you for sharing about her, she's is an inspiration!

I love children's book illustrations also and often write my own stories and illustrate them. Your children's pics are very sweet and your Oregon garden sounds wild and beautiful!
